Still Waiting: For Kevin Sutherland to Be Found!

I read a quote today on Tik Tok that stopped me in my tracks, “Don’t drown for people who wouldn’t even get in the water for you.”

It hit me hard. But what hit me even harder was who shared it—Melanie Watson. She’s the sister of Kevin Sutherland.

Kevin was pushed to his death on 19 December 2024. The final blow? Chairwoman Lady Anne Smith of the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry, who repeatedly refused to redact Kevin’s former name—exposing him to the public, tying him to the horrific abuse he suffered as a child.

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry’s repeated refusal to grant Kevin anonymity caused him immense mental and emotional distress. This was clearly documented by his doctor, who formally raised concerns with the Inquiry, highlighting Kevin Sutherland’s declining wellbeing due to his former identity being publicly available — and traceable to his current identity.

Despite knowing the impact it was having on Kevin, the Inquiry stood firm in their decision.
But here’s what cuts even deeper, the very link that caused Kevin so much pain—the one that left him feeling so exposed, so hopeless, so trapped that ending his life seemed like the only way out—was quietly removed AFTER his DEATH.
Kevin named two people who pushed him to the edge. One was Lady Anne Smith. The other? Dan Wootton.

Kevin said Dan drugged him and then aggressively raped him in 2014—while dehumanising him with the nastiest, most disgusting remarks. Calling Kevin a “worthless nameless piece of shit.” Not just words, but weapons. Words that reinforced the same brutal, soul destroying lies that years of abuse had already engraved into Kevin’s mind. Lies that told him he didn’t matter. Lies so many others had already made him believe.

Afterwards, someone contacted Kevin with a threat: if he ever spoke out, they’d expose his past and destroy him.

Lady Anne Smith enabled that threat to become real. She considered and PROPOSED redacting the names of POLICE OFFICERS who had ABUSED Kevin—but refused to offer that same protection to him. A victim!
And the most haunting part?
Eighteen weeks and six days later—Kevin is STILL MISSING. No body, no answers, no peace. Just a family forced to grieve in limbo.
I frequently reach out to Melanie to see if there’s been any updates. In response to my most recent message asking whether her brother has been found, she replied;
“Nope he has not 💔 very shocked that we are still waiting for the sad news.”
It’s time. Time for real answers, time for real action.
Kevin is WORTH getting in the water for, Kevin is WORTH the time and effort of being searched for, because Kevin was NEVER worthless. Kevin was NEVER nameless and Kevin Sutherland IS absolutely WORTH being found and returned to his family—so they can FINALLY lay him to rest with the dignity he was denied in life.
