Warning to Women: North Yorkshire man Michael Blyth Convicted of Sexual Assault

Michael Blyth, originating from Filey, North Yorkshire aged 33 (turning 34 this May), was sentenced on February 20th this year at York Crown Court to 3 years and 3 months in prison at HM Humber in East Riding of Yorkshire. He was convicted of sexual assault by penetration against his former partner, who is also the mother of his child.

Towards the tail end of the relationship, Michael repeatedly accused his partner of being unfaithful whenever she returned from going out anywhere. He would humiliate her by forcing her to undress so he could inspect her and would forcibly penetrate her in a disturbing attempt to check for evidence of sexual activity with another man.

As a result, Michael Blyth has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and is subject to a 10 year restraining order preventing any contact with his ex partner, as confirmed to me today by York Crown Court.

However, this restraining order was not originally issued by the authorities. Due to failings by North Yorkshire Police, the victim was forced to take matters into her own hands and obtain the restraining order herself, after officers postal charged Blyth—meaning no bail conditions were imposed on him following his arrest.

A source contacted me, concerned for the safety of a woman currently visiting Blyth in prison. It’s been alleged that Blyth is misleading this woman, falsely claiming he was jailed for drug offences. This is categorically untrue and has caused significant distress to his victim, particularly with his release expected as early as next year.

Despite the conviction, those close to the victim feel the seriousness of Blyth’s actions has not been fully addressed. The trauma inflicted was not limited to one incident, but part of a broader pattern of coercion, humiliation, and control. His sentence, while offering temporary protection, does little to erase the fear and long term impact left in his wake.

Michael Blyth’s case remains a stark reminder of the dangers posed by repeat abusers—men who continue to manipulate even from behind bars, and whose victims are often left to navigate the consequences alone.
